October 2 - October 6

 Weekly Happenings

Tremendous thank you to so many people for last week. Jenna and Rachel for all the work as student council advisors. Amy Young, Todd McDonald, Andrew Swanson, Sarah Aleckson, Danielle Steininger, Alex Schremp, Brian Engebretson, Anne Jagodzinski, and Brooke Davis as class advisors. Tony Degrand, Mike Plaza, Jean Durski, Rich Wagner, Kari Salber, Sara Pinsonneault, Dallas Rennie, Joe Finnegan, Dawn Seehafer, Josh English, Mike Mathies, Todd Bohm, Bill Franklin and so many more I am sure I have forgot. It takes a lot of dedicated people giving their time to make these experiences for students happen. Thank you for the past week and all the continued efforts throughout the year!

Great speakers Yuriko Gamo Romer and Kerry Yo Nakagawa spoke to some of our social studies classes last Tuesday about Japanese Baseball leagues within internment camps during WWII. This was a unique opportunity for our students and a fascinating look at the human spirit.

National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists - Three DCE seniors — James Dadabo, Andrue Dettman, and Ava Kumar — were named National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists by the National Merit Scholarship Program. The Semifinalist pool represents less than 1% of U.S. high school seniors and includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state. A Semifinalist must have an outstanding academic record throughout high school, be endorsed and recommended by a high school official, write an essay, and earn SAT® or ACT® scores that confirm the student’s earlier performance on the qualifying PSAT test. Finalists will be announced in February and the 2024 National Merit Scholarship winners will be announced beginning in April and concluding in July.

Commended National Merit Scholarship - Five DCE seniors — David Isham, Grace Jelen, Anson Jiang, Wesley Palmer, and Tommy Yothsackda — were named Commended Students by the National Merit Scholarship Program. Approximately 34,000 students across the nation earned the Commended Student recognition this year for their outstanding potential for academic success.

We are extremely lucky to have a phenomenal custodial staff who keep our facility looking absolutely amazing! During the national custodian day, please take a moment to thank the people who keep the building in great shape! Thank you Dave Falkowski, Tammy Behnke, Mark Graefe, Justina Hudzinski, Maria Kloth, Brian Kluender, Julie Laughnan, Chor Lee, and Josh Bass!
