D.C. Everest Senior High School Staff Update

Weekly Happenings

54 Pints of Blood collected at the Red Cross/Key Club Blood Drive last week!  Thank you to all who donated as well as to Megan Ackley and Julie Rice for their awesome leadership!

Prom was an amazing success!  Thank you Jen Gipp for all the leadership!  Special shout out to Hannah Brockman, Julie Raddenbach, Karry Salber, Brooke Davis, Brian Engebretson, Ron Consolver, Elizabeth Consolver, Dallas Rennie, and Officer English for chaperoning!

Forgot to add this a week ago - better late than never - Congratulations to Dave Wanta and all the members of the personal defense class for bringing back their awesome display of their learning a week ago!  Special shout out to Lehna Olstad as she is the only member of the class going for her blackbelt in May!

Congratulations to the 13 DECA members that earned their way to the DECA International Career Development Conference competition.  D.C. Everest DECA was recognized as having four Gold Level School Based Enterprises:  Everest Outfitters, Spirit Box, Everest Expressions, and the Tree Top Shop.  They were also recognized as earning the Thrive Level campaigns. Veronica Frystak, senior and a five-year DECA member, place in the top 20 in the Retail Merchandising Series.

YOU MATTER DAY!
You will receive an email from Erin Jacobson by Monday evening to give you your group totals. Please make this a fun and interactive day for yourself and our students. Supplies will be delivered to you on Monday. If you did not order supplies, please be responsible for your session and the activity.

If you have not signed up for a station, you will receive an email as to where you are needed for help.

MAY is Mental Health Awareness Month!
May 7-13, 2023 = National Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week
        2023 Key Findings (https://www.mhanational.org/issues/state-mental-health-america)
    • 8 in 10 youth mental health specialist say social media is fueling a mental health crisis
    • In the U.S., there are an estimated 350 individuals for every one mental health provider. However, these figures may actually be an overestimate of active mental health professionals, as it may include providers who are no longer practicing or accepting new patients.
    • 11.5% of youth (or over 2.7 million youth) are experiencing severe major depression. Rates of a severe major depressive episode were highest among youth who identified as more than one race, at 16.5% (about 123,000 youth).
    • Children who were discriminated against based on race or ethnicity had higher percentages of one or more physical health conditions (37.8% versus 27.1%), and one or more mental health conditions (28.9% versus 17.8%).6
    • Racial/ethnic discrimination was almost seven times as common among children with three other ACEs compared to those with no other ACEs.6

Announcements/Week Ahead
An update from Sunshine - A sympathy card was sent to Turi Cebula for the loss of her dad. Our sincerest condolences go out to Turi and her family during this difficult time.

Wellness Day Schedule Wednesday, May 3rd:    Wellness Day Altered Schedule 5/3/23

Reminders - As we enter the last month, please maintain expectations that have been in place all year long. Specifically - a reminder that you should not be excusing students until the bell rings. We've had some instances of students causing distractions in the hallways after being let out early. This causes a distraction for some and also places colleagues who are following the expectation in a tough place.  Thank you for your attention to this.

PD - Friendly reminder that all PD must be entered and approved in Frontline by 5-15-2023.

Scheduling update - We're on pause for scheduling until we figure out some shifting FTE. We intend to have all of those possibilities figured out by the end of this week at which point we will continue to move forward with the scheduling process.

From the desk of the School Nurse: All district staff are able to participate in the blended (online and in-person) CPR course offered by the district. There are classes in June/July/August available on Frontline currently. There is an online component to complete before the hands-on training: Here is the most up to date link for the Adult CPR/FA & AED blended learning class. Please have participants bring a copy of the course completion. (if you previously have completed this course through the district, be sure to use this link rather than any previous links in your Frontline history) https://www.redcrosslearning.com/course/432d2340-4985-11ec-92ad-414a63f5d619 What an excellent training to add to your skillset!
