Thanks so much to all those who took time to donate and volunteer at the Key Club sponsored blood drive, and to teachers for allowing students to serve our community!! We were able to collect 27 pints of blood for the Red Cross.

Everest Excellence Awards:
Big congratulations to Todd Bohm, Aaron Hoffman, and Xia Yang for being recognized as winners of the Everest Excellence Awards for all of the work they do!  Tremendous honor!

Variety Show - Tremendous variety show on Friday night! We have truly talented kids and great coaching/mentorship from our staff! Shout out to Cristie Bates, Marshall DeLonay, and Wendy Vesper for all of their work!

Congratulations to the following students and their Honored Educator.  David Isham, James Dadabo, Sara Mlodik, and Caitlyn Kressel were honored on Wednesday at the Honoring Excellence in Education Banquet.  The banquet recognizes the Wisconsin Academic Scholarship award winners from each high school in Marathon County.  Each student is asked to bring along an influential teacher during their journey.  Congratulations to Yolanda, Anne Marie, Scott and Brad for being recognized!

Staffing news - This past weekend Michael Krohn accepted the Dean of Students position for the 2024-2025 school year.  Congratulations to Michael!

Wednesday, May 1 Advisory - Advisory will be in the morning from 9:06-10:01 a.m. Altered Schedule
  • Seniors will have a Class Meeting in the Theater along with a DCE Signing/Decision Day Celebration in the fieldhouse.

  • Junior and Sophomore advisory teachers will be asked to spend the time with their classes by engaging in connection, community and play.  Please plan on offering games, activities, and other moments of connection for students.  Put the phones away and be present with each other.  Please be prepared to offer something for this time with your class.
Staff, we encourage you to wear your college alumni gear and/or Everest gear to support National Decision Day for our seniors!

All Frontline attendance and PD hours must be finalized by May 1st
  • Staff: Check your Learning Plan within Frontline
  • You must finalize attendance for any courses you've completed by May 1st in order for your contract to be issued by May 15th.
  • Work with your supervisor to ensure Outside PD Hours you've submitted for approval have been processed by your supervisor prior to May 1st (both "Pending prior approval", and "Awaiting final credit").
  • Asynchronous courses will no longer be visible in the catalog as of April 15th. In May, they will be made visible again. After May 1st, any hours submitted/accrued will be applied to the 2024-2025 school year. Here is a link to the Salary Schedule FAQ.
You can view your total number of PD hours at any time within Frontline. Please watch this short video for instructions.

May 5th- Mental Health Awareness Month- Run/Walk with Raise Your Voice
ALL are welcome- kids, adults, pets, anyone who is interested in a healthy activity to raise awareness. Route is set up as a 1 mile run walk, run it once, twice, three times, four times, up to you. Begins at Wausau West!  Register TODAY!

Graduation Ceremony Faculty Seating - As a tradition, we are looking for 20 faculty members to lead students and sit at the end of a row during the graduation ceremony. Class advisors, department coordinators/chairs please add your name as this is a required duty for you. Senior Advisory teachers are also encouraged to enter their name on the list.  Other faculty members will still be needed. If you would like to sit by your child, ELT seniors, or specific students, complete this survey link and Dawn will try to seat you closest to them. Thank you!

Senior Teachers - Parade of Graduates - If you teach Seniors, please plan on being apart of the Parade of Graduates on the 29th from 9-11 and Graduation practice from 12:15 - 2.  Retirees please plan to be apart of the parade of graduates as we will ask you to lead the students through the hallways!  More information to come!

Habit House Open House will be on Monday, May 20th, from 3-7 p.m. Come on out and see the great job our students have done building a home for someone in need.

House moving - The Habitat House will be moved on the morning of May 22nd. We'll need the far south lane blocked off as we have in the past to allow room for the trailers and cranes. All should be cleared out by noon.

The DCE Inaugural District-Wide Culture Fair:  May 13 from 4:00-7:00 PM at the Rothschild Pavilion. The event is free to the public. Stop in to visit the many booths that showcase the cultures that make up our community. There will be speakers, performers, free food, activities for students, and even a photo booth!

Pride Tickets:  All staff are asked to send three Pride tickets to students per week. Use the rotation calendar to help provide an equal rotation. Teachers are welcome to send more than directed on the calendar. This action step should increase the amount of positive feedback parents and students hear about all the good they are doing.

  • Receive Principal's approval
  • Make arrangements for payment/cost of trip
  • Complete request form, attach student list (alpha with student's name, no nicknames, & ID number)
  • If taking busses, student lists by bus with staff member name (health supplies for specific students will be packaged per bus).
  • Verify each student field trip permission form is on file in IC
  • Complete Online Bus Request
  • Schedule appointment with Health Aide to review details about the trip
  • Notice of trip and itinerary sent home
  • Notify special education department/case manager of students attending the trip
  • See Mike Raether if you have any questions.

Check this out! D.C. Everest Literary magazine recognized as an EXCELLENT example of student publication. From the commendation: The mission of NCTE’s REALM program is to publicly recognize excellent literary magazines produced by students with the support of their teachers. REALM is designed to encourage all schools to develop literary magazines that celebrate the art and craft of writing. Your magazine is a fine example of this mission in action, and the REALM committee looks forward to seeing future publications from your school. CONGRATS MATT CEPRESS AND ALL STUDENTS INVOLVED!



Big thank you to Jenn Gipp for an awesome Prom night for our Juniors!  Shout out to chaperones Karry Salber, Amy Young, Andrew Swanson, Sarah Aleckson, Josh English, and Dallas Rennie!


Congratulations to the following four students: Emma Schueller, Ari Gierman, Ashleigh Wanta, and Shela Lee for competing at the State HOSA competition.  Emma took second place in Nursing Assisting and will be representing DCE at the National Competition!

Need to Know

Staffing news - We held Physical Education interviews last week for Jean Durski's position due to her retirement.  Congratulations to Bill Franklin for accepting the position.  I am announcing this hire in the blog because I wanted you to know that we will be posting the Dean of Students position early next week.

BLT Meeting Wednesday - This Wednesday the BLT meeting will focus once again on the possibility of moving to a weighted grading system in the future.  Due to the new guaranteed admission law (Top 5% guaranteed admission to UW Madison/Top 10% guaranteed admission to all other UW's) we are investigating what that shift would mean for our students and our systems.  All are welcome to attend this meeting.

Measles Letter for Staff - I've been asked to share this attached letter with everyone.

Dr. Nye's Listening Session - Dr. Nye will be at the senior high on Tuesday, April 30th from 6:45-7:15 a.m. All staff are welcome to participate. He will plan to share a few district-wide updates and save the rest of our time for questions, ideas or concerns that you may have. Feel free to join whichever session is most convenient for you.

The next two weekends we have Back to Back 5k Run/Walks for great causes put on by our student run organizations!  It would be great if you and your family could make it to both or at least one of them.  Great Saturday morning exercise with colleagues, friends, and community members!
