D.C. Everest Senior High School Staff Update

Weekly Happenings

Our kids and team were named the 2022 WIFA (Wisconsin Interscholastic Fishing Association) Team of the Year at the awards dinner Saturday night in Shawano - out of over 140 high school teams in the state, it was a pretty cool honor.

Key Club and Everest Pals members teamed up with Blessings in a Backpack, helping fill 1800 bags of food for those in need within our local schools.

Rehearsals for Chicago! Make sure you get a seat when tickets become available!

Great experience for our Tech. Ed. students this week as an NTC instructor introduced and discussed the Gas Utility Technical Diplomas with our students!

Announcements/Week Ahead

Scheduling Update - I know for many scheduling time can be a concerning process regarding which class is running and which one isn't.  I want to be clear that it is our intention to be as transparent with faculty as possible.  We plan to get initial numbers out to Department Chairs and Coordinators by the end of this week. Following that notification, we will schedule a time to meet with Chairs/Coordinators to get initial thoughts. Following that meeting chairs and coordinators will take input from their department members before we start looking at what classes are or are not running.  It is a big puzzle and we do our best to include faculty - however, bottom line - If you are wondering about something related to numbers next week or after, feel free to reach out - we will be open and show you the requests.

Graduation Gowns Inventory - Barb will begin her annual graduation gowns inventory project.  If you have your school issued one at home, please bring it in.  If you are new to the building, Barb will be asking you for your height so we can get yours ordered for graduation.

Altered A.M. 46 min Advisory 3/1/23 - There will be an altered a.m. Advisory schedule on Wednesday to allow for a Junior ACT meeting in the auditorium followed by juniors returning to their classroom to complete tutorials and practice tests. Those who did not complete the MyACT.org accounts will be asked to do so on Monday.  Juniors should report to Advisory and will be excused by announcement to report to the auditorium.  Please instruct students to sit with their advisory classmates and you as the teacher in your assigned area.  Remind your students Monday to make sure they bring their iPads fully charged.  Sophomore and Senior ELTs should use the time as an extended Study Hall.  Altered Advisory a.m. Schedule for Tuesday, 3/1/2

Career Fair March 2nd - Sophomores (450) will be attending the 2023 Greater Wausau Youth Hiring & Career Fest.

  • Where: Wausau West High School
  • When: Thursday, March 2nd (DC Everest time slot 1-1:45 PM)
  • Sophomore Altered Schedule HERE
  • Advisors: Review CareerFest Prep on Slide Deck during 46-minute ELT on Wednesday, March 1st

Sophomores will network with businesses and colleges to learn about post-secondary education and career options. Additionally, employers that offer youth apprenticeships, summer employment, full-time or part-time employment opportunities will be available to network with students seeking employment.

Free Colored Paper - Just a friendly reminder that each building was sent a binder of free colored paper that is available to each building. Please see Dawn Seehafer to check the colors and sizes that are available.  There is some already in the high school and others that can be received from the warehouse within a day or so.

Special Education Update - Our district is currently in a period of special education IEP compliance monitoring through DPI. Every Local Education Agency in Wisconsin completes the monitoring based on a 5-year cycle, and we are always lucky enough to be monitored during the 1st year in the cycle of new requirements. Our special education staff members are aware of the monitoring and the work that goes into learning about new requirements needed to remain compliant in our IEP-writing, but the rest of our staff might not have heard about it yet.

We want all staff members to know because special education case managers will be asking teaching colleagues for information about students that they might not have had to ask about before. For example, they will likely ask questions about a student's achievement in relation to the standards taught in the student's grade level. Referencing grade-level standards in reading, writing, math, science, AND social studies in IEPs is new for us. Our special education teachers greatly appreciate the information provided by our regular education teachers when they ask these standards-related questions. It helps them write compliant and effective IEPs that support student growth.

Thank you to all of our staff members for collaborating around our students!
