September 11 - 15

 Weekly Happenings

Last week we began to see some amazing student talents on display.  Cross Country, Tennis, Soccer, Volleyball, Golf, Swimming, and Football all had successes to be proud of.  Our Musical "Catch Me if You can" has been casted and they continue to prepare for their Fall Shows.  Band and Dance were great at halftime of the football game.  The students who walk our halls have been very impressive, but they only have the opportunity to shine because of all of the efforts of those who advise, direct, coach, teach and give back.  Thank you for giving our students opportunities throughout the year to shine in their own areas!

Need to Know

VERY IMPORTANT TO READ PRIOR TO ELT MONDAY

When determining who stays and who goes:
  • Starting this week, we are running our normal ELT/Advisory schedules.
  • Sophomores cannot be released until the end of quarter 1. They must report to their assigned teacher or stay in their ELT classroom if they are not requested.
  • Juniors and Seniors can be released if they are NOT assigned by a teacher in the ELT program, if they are NOT assigned for ELT due to a class skip, or if they are NOT in the red in Grade Guardian.
  • If a student is assigned to an ELT for a class skip there will be an indication in red writing by their name in the ELT program.
  • Juniors and Seniors will only know if they are in the red in Grade Guardian when they report to their ELT classroom for attendance. Their ELT teacher is the only one that can give them that information. Students do not have access to look at Grade Guardian. It is a request that we have made repeatedly to the company.
When requesting students in the ELT program:
  • A change in the ELT program is the new drop-down box. When you are assigning a student, you will now need to select the reason why. You can still add notes in the comment box.
  • Please do not assign students for multiple days in a row as other teachers may also need to assign that student.
When a student is in the red in your ELT:
  • If you have a student in your ELT that is in the red in Grade Guardian you do NOT need to assign that student to ELT through the ELT program. You just need to have Canvas pulled up to your ELT/Advisory’s Grade Guardian Screen. You will let them know if they are in the red when they come to your room for attendance.
  • If a student comes in, who is in the red, and says they completed that “missing biology assignment so they should be able to leave now” your answer should be no. They need to stay until their red is no longer red.
  • We realize this early in the year having one missing assignment can put a student in the red, but we want to start with consistent expectations right off the bat.
Here is a video that goes over the different features of Grade Guardian that we encourage you to watch as a refresher.

If you have questions regarding Grade Guardian please reach out to Dallas. If you have questions regarding an ELT assignment for attendance, please reach out to Bill.

3rd Friday Count Sept. 15th  - We will be completing the 3rd Friday Count during a 7min ELT after 2nd period on Friday, Sept. 15th.  Rosters will be put in teacher's mailboxes the day before.  Please take attendance during this time and have a student walk it down to Attendance and slide it under the window immediately after taking attendance. Make sure you sign the roster which verifies the accuracy of student enrollment. Emails will be sent out with further instructions as we near this day. Altered 3rd Friday Count 9/15/23 Schedule

Emergency Red/Green Door Cards - All classroom and office doors leading to the hallways are required to have a red/green card in a clear holder posted on the inside of the window directly to the side of the door with the red facing out to the hallway.  If you have two hallway doors, they both should have one posted on them.  If you do not have one or if your colors are faded, please complete the following survey and one will be given to you.  Emergency Red/Green Door Card Needed

Clubs/Activity Advisors - All club/activity advisors please check out the link below to make sure the correct information (club name, description, advisor(s), email address) are correct for this school year.  If there are any changes, please let Dawn Seehafer know.  This information is located on the senior high webpage.  Also, please send a student roster with ID numbers to Heidi.  The list can always be updated if needed.  SH Webpage of Clubs/Activities

District Warehouse Paper - There is still donated color paper available in the district warehouse.  This paper is FREE to the school. It is great paper for arts and crafts, scrap paper, paper airplanes, or mailings for parents. The senior high does have some of this paper here in the building but could get more. Check out the supply in the first room of the faculty women's bathroom across the hall from the teacher's lounge.  There is also a black binder in there with all the colors, sizes, and thickness of all donated paper.  Please contact a custodian if you would like to receive some of what is not here.

Sunshine Club: We are so excited to welcome two new little Evergreens to the school. Congrats to Kaitlyn Roskopf on the birth of her son Parker and Heidi Clark on the birth of her son as well! Sunshine sent a card and Target Gift cards to both families to celebrate this special event in their lives.

**Sunshine would like to continue to offer our support during difficult times and celebrate happy life events. In order to do that, we are collecting money from staff who wish to donate. Please review the flyer to see how Sunshine supports DCE SRH and where to drop off the donation. SH Sunshine Flyer 2023-24

Pride Tickets:  All staff are asked to send three Pride tickets to students per week. Use the rotation calendar to help provide an equal rotation. Teachers are welcome to send more than directed on the calendar. This action step should increase the amount of positive feedback parents and students hear about all the good they are doing.
