December 19 - 23

D.C. Everest Senior High School Staff Update

Shopping Trip! - Thank you for supporting this experience for our students.
Theme of the year: Buying gifts for others (family members, siblings, friends) because they don't get the opportunity to buy for others.

Statements from kids: "I have never been to this store; I didn't know what to expect." "This was great because I am always the one who doesn't give a gift at Christmas, now I can"
  • 60 kids attended to shop
  • 12 will shop online on Monday
  • Each student received $75 (after a 25% discount on most items)
  • Money used was donated by our own staff and the community!
Huge thank you to the staff who assisted in shopping: Jodi Devine, Val Willems, Jenny Oosterhuis, Brooke Davis, Melissa Barwick, Kristine Hulce, Nicole Paulson, Julie Raddenbach, Trish Opal, Lisa Hanne, Turi Cebula, Todd Bohm and Casey Nye.

Fun day had by all who turned out to make wreaths after school!  There will be another staff wellness activity in January - Stay tuned!

  • The first check for the New Year is on Friday (1/13/23), this check will compensate for hours worked from 12/18/22-12/31/22. These timesheets will need to be submitted by Friday (1/3/23).
Save the date - DCE is once again partnering with Wausau School District to host a Child, Student, & Family Disability Resource Fair - previously named Transition Talks. She will be providing PD on the evening of the 8th for teachers and associates. All of her PD opportunities are on Frontline for staff to sign-up - associates may get paid for this training. A reminder of her first session:

The trainings are on Frontline and ready for people to sign-up!
  • January 18 and 19
    • How to Manage When Emotions Get Big - Do you know students who get stuck in emotional responses, sometimes leading to meltdowns or dysregulation? Are you feeling stuck with what strategies to use to help them support them in calming down? Emotional regulation is one’s ability to recognize and process emotions as well as one’s ability to manage or balance emotional responses. In this training, participants will receive an overview of the neurological and physiological responses that can be activated when students (and adults!) are experiencing a stress response. We will explore practices and strategies to use to help us all regulate our stress responses and return to a calmer state of being.
  • February 2 and 3
    • Understanding, Supporting and Teaching Executive Functioning Skills for your Students - The purpose of this training is to help participants identify specific areas of executive functioning deficits in their students and develop the ability to effectively support and teach students who struggle with executive functioning skills. This includes identifying students who struggle with organization, planning, initiation, staying on task, impulse control, emotional regulation and adaptability and resiliency. The educational impact of each of these areas will be explored and discussed. Participants will learn strategies and supports that can be used to address executive functioning challenges as it relates to classroom participation and performance
