Mr. Finnegan working hard during one of our more unique fundraisers on Sunday - Mattress Sale benefiting the Band.

Great experience in Foods 2 as Miranda Stroik brought in a local chef for a cooking demo in the new culinary space!

Karen Wegge had the unified pals playing with the bounce houses on Friday!

Stopped by the house to watch our students taping and mudding! Great progress coming along by Chad Pernsteiner's crew!

Advisory Meetings

This past week I had the opportunity to meet with Rose and Jenn regarding their advisory followups with teachers over the last few weeks. Here are some themes that were consistent between many departments:

  • Teachers are overwhelmingly doing a great job building connections with students through one on one conversations - These conversations have led to the removal of barriers for students to access resources for their college and career readiness.
  • Utilization of the CCR Dashboard has been really well received by teachers and students to engage in meaningful conversations.
  • Feedback from teachers regarding the addition of time sensitive information has been implemented moving forward (found on the slidedeck emailed each week).
  • Feedback from teachers asked for an increase of more "workshops" in which students will be able to attend Youth Apprenticeship, career cluster, or other college and career informational sessions during advisory.
  • It was clear that the documentation of one-on-one meetings was not occurring consistently. It is important that we document the goal setting process with students as we meet each week so that we can track conversations and use that documentation to revisit the conversations over a three year time period. You are free to use your own documentation process or use a copy of the document we provided in the first meeting of the year and found in the advisory guide.   https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1TTHIrwwNC4-PzNsarsXICqmOpSUX6MBt9sqd4aygvWQ/edit#gid=0

Our Why:  A year ago, our School Board updated board goals with one specifically tied to our work in regards to college and career readiness:

Portrait of a Grad
Develop pathways that connect D.C. Everest students with the world. Provide opportunities for every D.C. Everest student to graduate with meaningful academic, service and community-based experiences.

We use Advisory as our vehicle to connect with students - introduce them to opportunities they do not know exist - and remove barriers for them to get in touch with what they need.  As we work to refine our processes the main responsibility of advisory teachers is to engage in one-on-one goal setting processes around the college and career indicators https://apps.dce.k12.wi.us/dceready/

In an effort to help grow the work, we will be hosting a PD session for anyone who wants to attend on Monday, March 7 in the IMC. During that time Mike, Rose, and Jenn will revisit expectations and best practices of an advisor.  Hope to see you there!
