D.C. Everest Senior High School Staff Update

Weekly Happenings

Key Club Blood Drive - Great work by Megan Ackley and Julie Rice for organizing and running another great Key Club Blood Drive last week!  We had a great turnout at our biannual key club blood drive. We had 55 individuals come to donate, and were able to give 42 total units of blood. We had 21 students successfully donate, and a couple of teachers donated as well!

Fantastic work by members of our CTE department in organizing and supporting the Heavy Metal Tour for our JH students. Listening to our High School students speak to our JH students and share their experiences and learning in our classes was absolutely amazing! So much pride within our students!

All teachers are required to be in the building for conferences unless on the shared teacher list or have been approved by Mike. ANYONE INTERESTED IN HELPING???  A plea from an Alumni teacher!

This past weekend Mike Mathies was speaking with his daughter's friend, former DCE student, Hannah Tipple.  Hannah is a teacher outside of Fort Meyers and recently her school was destroyed from the Hurricane.

When speaking with Mike, Hannah stated, "The Superintendent's goal is to have the schools in good condition go back on the 17th. Our school is not a school in good condition.  It sounds like it'll be destroyed and rebuilt. We will be put in any open school with openings or portable structures.  We heard that we might eventually be able to get our belongings from our classrooms but right now it's not safe. If you and DCE are able and willing to help our school we would absolutely appreciate it. Any school supplies, teacher supplies or room decor, student uniforms (solid color, collared shirt), books, etc. would be SO greatly appreciated. It doesn't have to be new things either, just anything laying around from peoples houses or classrooms that they don't need would be so helpful. At the moment all 60ish of us teachers have nothing to our names. Our careers are in a water damaged classroom that's collecting mold and mildew."

Mike, through his connections, has already secured a semi for anything we collect.  Our school has risen to situations like this before when our students become passionate about making a difference.  Is there a student club out there interested in spearheading this work?  Maybe multiple clubs that would work together to make a difference and collect items?  Let me know if your student group wants to be apart of this awesome service project.
