D.C. Everest Senior High School Staff Update

Weekly Happenings
A huge thank you to Jenny and Lisa for all of their work organizing student council and the staff appreciation food, goodies, and trivia game!  Very thankful for their leadership!

A couple of babies to announce!!!

Congratulations to Ciera and Emerson Levake for the birth of Dax Oslo Levake on April 18th.  Dax was 8lbs and 20 inches long and everyone is doing well!

Also a congratulations to Tony Degrand and his wife Bridget on the birth of Hudson Robert last Thursday.  He was a 21.5" baby weighing in at 9lbs and 4 oz!

Congratulations to the coach Katie Shulfer and our Softball program for a quality win last Tuesday over West, but more importantly raising over $2500 during their community service game. The money raised was given to a family within our softball program whose mother was recently diagnosed with breast cancer.  Tremendous work by our softball team off the diamond as well as on.

Dave Wanta brought in a tremendous speaker to his young adult medicine courses this week.  Dr. Eilers, an area leading cardiothoracic surgeon, led a fascinating discussion as she shared her daily experiences, challenges and rewards of the job.

Congratulations to Reagan Frystak who this week accepted her appointment to the Coast Guard Academy.  Below are a few teachers who made a huge impact on Reagan throughout the last few years!

Adventure Ed students getting dirty this past week!

Announcements/Week Ahead

AP Testing Schedule:  A reminder that students leaving for an afternoon test will be excused at 10:45 to grab lunch and get to their testing site in time.  Students testing in the morning will be expected to be back to school by 8/9

Staffing Updates: Val Willems will serve as our new counselor next year. She is currently the department chair at SPASH.  Val lives in our district and has students who go to Riverside.  Last week Friday we interviewed for our open At-Risk position and we hope to wrap that hire up during the upcoming week.  We will be scheduling English candidates to interview in the coming week as well.

Both the middle school principal and Weston principal processes are also moving forward from a district perspective.  More to come on that in the weeks ahead.

Peer-to-Peer Suicide Prevention Grant - DCE Junior and Senior High have been awarded a Peer-to-Peer Suicide Prevention Grant for the 2022-2023 school year. We are in the beginning stages of exploring programs that will best meet the needs of our students and are hoping to engage 1-2 staff members in this process. If you are interested, please reach out to Erin Jacobson.

PTO benefit for next year: There’s lots of exciting chatter about the flexibility our new PTO benefit will provide. As you look ahead to next year, please know that planning is still underway for:
  • Process to request approval
  • Building threshold
  • Number of successive days allowed
  • Which days might be “blocked
I’m confident we’ll have that information prior to our end-of-year meeting. I’ll plan to make sure we talk through things together before we leave, but in the meantime please don’t make firm commitments (i.e. travel plans, etc. for next year).

Habitat for Humanity Open House - The Construction Trades class taught by Chad Pernsteiner will be holding their 2021-22 Habitat for Humanity Open House from 3-3:30 pm on Tuesday, May 10th.  Come on out and see what a great job our kids did building this house.  The house will be moved on Friday, May 13th.

Graduation Ceremony Faculty Seating - Still are in need of a few faculty to sit at the end of the row of seniors and lead them in as row leaders.  Please contact Dawn Seehafer if interested.

Senior Teachers - Parade of Graduates - If you teach Seniors please plan on being apart of the Parade of Graduates on the 25th from 9-11 and Graduation practice from 12:15 - 2.  More information to come!
